Health and Safety
The North Carolina Health and Safety Department conducts unannounced sanitation inspections throughout each year and EPLC consistently rates a classification of "Superior". We are very proud of this outstanding accomplishment!
For the safety of your child, we conduct monthly fire drills as well as quarterly Emergency Prepardness drills. We make every effort to prepare the children for the drills so that they are not frightened and so that they understand the purpose of the drill.
The facility is cleaned and disinfected throughout the day and on a nightly basis which includes sweeping, mopping and/or vacuuming all floors and cleaning all of the bathrooms. Our staff members maintain the cleanliness of our classrooms daily by sweeping, mopping, removing trash, and washing table surfaces with soap/water and bleach/water. Bathrooms are sprayed with bleach/water each night to kill germs. Each week, our staff members clean chairs, window sills and cabinets and also dust all cubbies. Each Friday, all children take home their naptime laundry to be washed. The cots and mats are then sprayed and sanitized.
We do not administer prescription or over the counter medications at school unless they are required for diagnosed allergies or breathing problems.
If a child has a prescribed medicine, it must be brought to the facility in it’s ORIGINAL CONTAINER bearing the pharmacist’s label which lists the child’s name, date the prescription was filled, doctor’s name, medication name and dosage instructions. Prescribed medicine shall be administered only to the person for whom it is prescribed.
Over-the-counter medications, such as Benadryl for an allergic reaction, shall be administered as authorized in writing by a doctor or parent, not to exceed amounts and frequency of dosage specified in the printed instructions accompanying the medication.
Medications will be kept in a locked box in the classroom. Medications such as an Epipen needed for a ‘life threatening’ situation will be kept unlocked but out of reach in the child’s classroom. Preschool directors will administer all medications.
Our staff members have been trained in First Aid and CPR and are trained to respond appropriately in the event of emergencies. If your child has a medical emergency, we will immediately transport him/her (or have transportation provided) to a nearby hospital emergency room. The Center will contact you regarding the emergency and provide information about the location and condition of your child.
The Center is not liable for accidents or illness occurring to a child while in our care unless it can be proven that the accident or illness was the direct result of our staff member's negligence. The Center maintains medical insurance coverage in case accidents do occur that require medical attention.
